Laser
Surgical treatments are considered but are performed on an outpatient basis.
YAG Laser
It is mainly used to perform capsulotomy in patients who, having had cataract surgery, have their posterior capsule opaque. It is also very useful in the prevention of acute glaucoma by iridotomy.
Photocoagulating laser
It is the ideal wavelength for photocoagulation of the retina. It is especially indicated in diabetic retinopathy, retinal tears and degenerations, and other vascular alterations of the fundus.
Diode laser
It is currently used primarily in photodynamic therapy that combines the injection of a photosensitive drug with the application of this laser to treat age-associated macular degeneration (AMD) . It is also useful in the treatment of vascular tumors of the fundus.
